Mass Knife Attack on Train Triggers Counter-Terror Probe

HUNTINGDON, UK

A shocking knife attack on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross left at least 10 people hospitalized, nine of them with life-threatening injuries, in what authorities initially treated as a potential terror incident. The attack occurred shortly after the train departed Peterborough on the evening of November 1, 2025, sending passengers into panic and triggering a swift emergency response.

British Transport Police (BTP) declared a major incident and activated “Plato”, the national emergency code used for suspected marauding terror attacks. Witnesses described scenes of chaos on the train, with some passengers hiding in toilets while others attempted to help the injured. Blood was reportedly seen throughout carriages as the attack unfolded.

Two men were arrested at Huntingdon Station after the train made an emergency stop. Police recovered a large knife from the scene, and one suspect was reportedly Tasered during his arrest. Authorities have identified the suspects as a 32-year-old British man and a 35-year-old British man of Caribbean descent, with the 32-year-old remaining in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

While counter-terrorism authorities were initially involved, subsequent investigations indicate “nothing to suggest” the attack was terrorism-related. Transport Minister Heidi Alexander confirmed that the 32-year-old suspect was not known to counter-terrorism services prior to the incident. Police are continuing to investigate the motive, examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “deeply concerning,” while Defence Secretary John Healey urged the public to carry on with their lives but promised heightened police presence on public transport in the aftermath.

As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on determining what triggered the attack and whether any further measures are needed to ensure passenger safety. The suspect is expected to appear in court in the coming days as police work to piece together the full sequence of events.
