Iran President Apologizes to Gulf Nations for Strikes

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates

Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a rare public apology to neighboring Gulf countries following a wave of Iranian missile and drone strikes that targeted locations across the region during the escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

In a prerecorded address broadcast on Iranian state television, Pezeshkian said he personally apologized to countries affected by the attacks and acknowledged that the strikes had raised serious concerns among Iranโ€™s regional neighbors. โ€œI must apologize on my own behalf to neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran,โ€ the president said, describing the incident as a situation that should be resolved through diplomacy rather than further military escalation.

The apology came after several Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates reported incoming missiles and drones during a dramatic expansion of the conflict beyond Iranโ€™s borders. Regional defense systems intercepted many of the projectiles, but the attacks triggered air raid sirens and heightened fears that the war could spread further across the Middle East.

Pezeshkian stated that Iranโ€™s leadership council had instructed the armed forces not to launch attacks against neighboring countries unless Iran itself came under direct attack from their territory. According to the president, the strikes occurred during a chaotic moment in Iranโ€™s command structure after senior leadership figures were killed in earlier military operations, leaving some units without clear guidance.

He suggested that confusion within the military chain of command may have played a role in the attacks, describing the situation as a possible โ€œmisunderstanding among officers.โ€ The Iranian government has said it does not intend to target Gulf states and that its primary focus remains confronting what it describes as aggression against Iranian territory.

The missile and drone attacks were part of a broader wave of regional violence that followed major airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian military infrastructure. The fighting intensified after a dramatic escalation in the conflict that began in late February and has since spread across multiple countries in the region.

According to regional officials, Iranian strikes have reached multiple locations across the Gulf, including military installations and areas near energy infrastructure. Some countries reported intercepting ballistic missiles and drones aimed at strategic targets such as air bases hosting U.S. forces.

Despite the apology, the situation remains highly volatile. Reports indicate that missile launches and drone activity continued in parts of the Gulf even after Pezeshkianโ€™s statement, raising questions about how much control Iranโ€™s civilian leadership currently holds over military operations carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

At the same time, Gulf governments have warned Tehran against further attacks. Officials in Saudi Arabia have reportedly conveyed strong messages to Iran, stating that additional strikes on the kingdom or its energy infrastructure could trigger retaliation or increased cooperation with U.S. military operations.

The conflict has already caused significant casualties across the region. Reports indicate that more than a thousand people have been killed in Iran since the fighting began, along with hundreds in neighboring countries affected by the widening hostilities.

Analysts say the Iranian presidentโ€™s apology appears to be an attempt to calm tensions with Gulf nations and prevent them from joining the conflict directly. However, with ongoing military activity and competing signals from Iranian commanders, the stability of the region remains uncertain as the crisis continues to unfold.
