Ministers from the world’s seven largest advanced economies, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, gathered in Montréal today for the 2025 G7 Industry, Digital and Technology Ministers’ Meeting. The summit, hosted under Canada’s presidency, focuses on global collaboration in artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and industrial competitiveness.
Canadian ministers Mélanie Joly and Evan Solomon welcomed their international counterparts, emphasizing the importance of strengthening supply chains, accelerating innovation, and building a resilient digital economy. The ministers are expected to discuss strategies for promoting responsible AI adoption, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and advancing digital infrastructure across G7 nations.

Canada is also preparing to finalize a bilateral agreement with the United Kingdom, further strengthening international collaboration on technology and innovation.
Officials note that this gathering comes on the heels of the mid-year G7 leaders’ summit in Alberta, where leaders adopted a statement on AI for prosperity and outlined plans for quantum technology and critical minerals development.
